This is an interesting topic. Why? Because all security firms will claim that they have superb installation and service standards!  If you have an existing system that needs service, please visit our other services page.

It is obvious to anyone who has employed some form of tradesmen, that there will be good fitters and some not so good. All claim they are the best, but how are you going to tell good from the bad?

Some look at how well the sales person or fitters are presented, although this has little bearing on the quality of the job. Others look to see if the company provides lots of glossy leaflets and literature? If so they may be charging more to cover the printing costs! A very good question to ask is "Are the engineers qualified?

Most will say yes, but a diploma in cooking is not going to help. Look specifically for the City and Guilds NVQ 1870 or 1866 in Security Installations – this is really considered a minimum in the security industry. Does the fitter have his or her work checked by an independent inspectorate? This is a debateable question, simply put it is definitely better they do than don’t – however some of the worst examples that I have seen have been by large firms that are subject to inspection.

I must point out that inspectorates do have grievance procedures that can force companies to rectify poor workmanship – but your goal is to avoid any poor workmanship from the start.
